RE: Best way to carry lots of water?

I know one fellow camper that uses the 50 gallon water pillow. He uses one of these to transfer the water to the trailer fresh tank.

RE: 5th wheel towing real world experience needed

We are changing to 16.5K lb 5th wheel with 2750lb hitch weight. towing with 06 GMC crewcab short bed 2500HD. kbsplus2, did the dealer tell you your truck would handle that fifth wheel, no problem? The hitch weight you indicate may be dry weight. The weight of cargo raise the pin weight a few hundred pounds or more. Much of the cargo in a fiver is forward in the lower storage and in the front bedroom. You'll never actually know the pin weight until you hit the scales.

RE: Garmin GPS - cold temps

We always take the GPS into the house. I believe the electronics and LCD panel will survive temperature extremes in our area. The GPS manual should provide recommended temperature limits. The Lithium-ion battery used in the GPS is of more concern to me, heat being more of a problem. The following info provides some explanation: Guidelines for prolonging Li-ion battery life Unlike Ni-Cd batteries, lithium-ion batteries should be charged early and often. However, if they are not used for a long time, they should be brought to a charge level of around 40% - 60%. Lithium-ion batteries should not be frequently fully discharged and recharged ("deep-cycled") like Ni-Cd batteries, but this is necessary after about every 30th recharge to recalibrate any external electronic "fuel gauge" (e.g. State Of Charge meter). This prevents the fuel gauge from showing an incorrect battery charge. Lithium-ion batteries should never be depleted to below their minimum voltage, 2.4v to 3.0v per cell. Li-ion batteries should be kept cool. Ideally they are stored in a refrigerator. Aging will take its toll much faster at high temperatures. The high temperatures found in cars cause lithium-ion batteries to degrade rapidly. According to one book, lithium-ion batteries should not be frozen (most lithium-ion battery electrolytes freeze at approximately -40 °C; this is much colder than the lowest temperature reached by household freezers, however). Li-ion batteries should be bought only when needed, because the aging process begins as soon as the battery is manufactured.

RE: Camping at Killbear Provincial Park Ontario

We camped at Killbear in Lighthouse point a few years ago with a 33' fifth. There are many sites large enough but may take some maneuvering to enter and exit the site. The roadways within each camping section can also be tight on turns. Take it slow and use a spotter when needed. We took a canoe with us and spent many enjoyable hours on the water. This website allows you to book a campsite or at least check out size and description of each site: Killbear Provincial Park

RE: Reese vs Pullright

On behalf of Pullrite, I've volunteered to collect a nickel for every vote they get. Please email your nickels to me and I'll take care of them :). My vote can be assumed.

RE: Shock absorbers on a 5th wheel

what were the results? Imagine driving a car with and without shocks. Now apply that perception to your fiver (and it's cargo - dishes, etc...)

RE: Short bed vs. long bed

Our short bed quad cab 3500 is a daily driver for my wife. She lets me drive when it's time to tow. Our main reason for buying the truck was to tow a fifth wheel, not carry 4x8 sheets of drywall or plywood. If we need to do that, the sheets can lay up and over the tailgate. We installed a Pullrite Superglide hitch, and when it comes to towing, you maneuver as if you had a long bed. The Superglide moves back automatically. We have a cargo box behind the cab as well.

RE: Goodyear Marathons-65lbs. cold????

Bring them up to the required pressure. On your way to Florida, before starting out each morning, check the tires and drop the pressure as necessary. That's what I do.. it doesn't hurt to have some extra incentive to check your tires before hitting the road each day, and this system is foolproof! Bang on. No pun intended :) Very good advice.

RE: LSD vs ULSD

Low sulphur diesel hasn't been available for a long time now. If you see LSD on the pump, the dealership hasn't bothered to replace the sticker with ULSD. The mechanic you spoke to is sadly misinformed. I wouldn't want him servicing a new $$$$$ diesel.

I read this: I have yet to figure out why you need a black tank flush. then your signature: "Your lucky to be alive my friend." Quote from the "Do it yourself police" and many others that have known me. and understood :B I'm assuming you're just kidding about 'why a black water flush'...

RE: 5th Wheel Manufacturers

Louise We have been enjoying our Jayco Designer for 4 years now. Since we purchased our fiver, Jayco had eliminated our model. It seems that all of the current Jayco Designers are quite heavy in 'dry pin weight'. Considering that, with cargo loaded which is mostly up front in the lower storage compartment and front bedroom with closets filled as well as a possible air conditioner up front, the pin weight would be 3-500 pounds more than the brochure pin weight. Your 3/4 ton vehicle may be less than desired for a safe trip. It's better to consider the 5er you intend to purchase before making a decision on the tow vehicle, not after. JMHO

RE: Is a GMC 3500 Dura/allison enough to Tow a Mobile Suite?

I have a 07' GMC 35004WD Crewcab long-bed Dually w/duramax-allison. It has a 60 gallon aux. fuel tank in the bed (plus a 34 gallon factory tank). I havn't had time to get it weighed yet (I've got a call in to the weight-police to come out to weigh it). I have found a 05' 36' triple slide Mobile Suite that I want really bad. Whata you guys think that have weighed your trucks? You think the Suite will put me beyond the factory limits on weight? I have friend that has the exact same trailer. It weighed, delivered 14,000 lbs. Loaded it now weighs 16,000 with a pin weight of 3300 lbs. Any accurate advise will be appreciated. I'm guessing my truck will weigh around 8500 lbs. If you're trying to follow manufacturer recommended ratings for the TV, any "accurate advice" will only come from the weigh scales used in combination with the GCWR, GVWR, & GRAWR of the TV. Answers from this forum will provide only personal opinions, including mine. If you're serious about the question you ask, learn the math, do the math. Include the weight of the two fuel tanks in your calculations. My opinion is the TV will do the job. JMHO

RE: Garmin GPS Map Question?

You buy something with your debit or a check (and of course, cash) and they have their money before the day has ended. If you need a refund, rebate, or credit, it takes "6-8 weeks to process your paperwork". No, they want to use your money as long as they can get by with it. I guess that is okay with you too. Use a charge card, take advantage of 30 days to pay for the item. If you have a problem with the product, you can return it for a full refund long before you ever had to pay a penny for it. Regarding the support from the GPS company you're dealing with, the call centers are attempting to keep cost down. I'm finding more and more call centers are relocating overseas for that reason. I'd rather have people on this continent taking care of support. If anyone would like to find out useful info and tips in the GPS world, this is an interesting site with a forum.

RE: Environmental impact of full-timing?

Louise The two lifestyles carry significant differences. Every material and energy resource used to produce and maintain either lifestyle could be analysed in great detail. Would the end result persuade an individual to change to the more earth friendly mode or is the point of all the effort to simply justify the desired lifestyle?
